Today you will walk in the footsteps of Jesus during the final moments of his life. It is a wonderful tour that will help you understand the historical context, imbibe the atmosphere and deepen your understanding of his final movements.
You will begin your day on the Mount of Olives, at the Chapel of the Ascension and the Pater Noster Church. Your guide will help you understand the biblical and archaeological contexts of these important sites, from where Jesus is believed to have ascended to heaven, and where he is believed to have taught the Lord’s Prayer for the first time respectively.
You will continue to Jerusalem
’s most spectacular viewpoint, from where you will descend the mountain, via the Tombs of the Prophets
(Hagai, Zechariah and Malachi) and the Dominus Flevit Church
, arriving at the Garden of Gethsemane; you will explore the ancient olive tree grove and the beautiful Church of all Nations
Descending in the Kidron Valley, you will be able to visit the ancient tombs (including that traditionally identified with King David’s son Absalom), before ascending to Mount Zion.
After lunch, it will be time to explore Mount Zion. You will visit the Last Supper Room, and also the Tomb of King David.
There is an option to visit the Dormition Church, built on the ruins of the grand Hagia Sion Church from the Byzantine period, before descending slightly down the hill and concluding the day at the magnificent Church of St Peter in Gallicantu, believed to be the site of Jesus’ imprisonment by the Jewish authorities.
